This Library Really Got in the Game!
Congratulations to Fran Weaver and DeKalb County Public Library, Stonecrest Branch — Winner of Our 2011 National Gaming Day Contest!
Stonecrest Branch Library in Lithonia, Georgia opened in June of 2011 and has already hosted two gaming programs, including one on National Gaming Day. These events were popular with the teen crowd, all of whom enjoyed playing with their peers. None of the participants had ever attended a library program before, and they all indicated that they’d be interested in more gaming programs and tournaments, as well as game creation classes.
Staff members at Stonecrest are dedicated to making their new library a community hub and gathering place for children and teens, and gaming programs are an effective way to bring kids through the doors. Future gaming plans include hosting programs at local schools during Teen Tech Week, developing a video game creation program to reinforce STEM educational initiatives in local schools, incorporating gaming into their summer reading program and hosting multigenerational gaming events.
As the winner of our National Gaming Day Contest, Stonecrest Branch Library will receive a complete gaming package featuring a DEMCO Triple Play Kiosk, a 42” LCD TV and an Xbox 360 Kinect system to help make their upcoming gaming events even more successful.
Congratulations from DEMCO!
