School Library Designed for Social Distancing
Every school will have different needs and will find different ways to accommodate social distancing within their school spaces. To help you plan and envision new ways of rearranging your school library, Demco’s interior design team created this virtual tour of a library designed for social distancing.
Key features of the library include mobile, flexible tables and workspaces that are easy to reconfigure to meet 6-foot distancing guidelines. Mobile storage solutions keep each student’s materials separated and cut down on the transfer of germs.
Mobile storage and shelving also help define a classroom area within the library space and create barriers to allow different activities to take place outside the classroom zone. Combined with floor decals, mobile furnishings also help define a one-way traffic-flow pattern.
Mobile table systems allow for multiple configurations to help small groups work together while maintaining 6 feet of distance. Staff can then easily rearrange these flexible tables to accommodate more typical collaboration dynamics in the future.
Staff and student safety protections include acrylic barriers along service points at the circulation desk, portable hand-washing stations, and social distancing floor decals to give students visual cues for where to stand.
Tall, clear screens help define zones yet maintain sight lines across large spaces. Shorter screens, mobile power solutions, and laptop tables combine to separate soft seating into personal workspaces for students.
